The ASCN annual open day/evening was held last Tuesday. Everybody at school was busy the last few days getting the rooms ready to welcome 6th class pupils from the local primary schools, Scoil Bhride and Scoil Phroinsiais Naofa. The boys came to us in the morning and the girls in the afternoon.
The boys and girls visited the school in small groups, led by our mentor students from 5th and 6th year. They had hands-on experience in home economics where they baked buns and in music where they tried out the various instruments. They also got to play games in Geography and French and listened to our 1st and 2nd year students telling them all about their learning in the different classes at ASCN. They all went home after a great day and pocketful’s of sweets ang goodies (buns, wooden keyrings with the school crest…)
In the evening, the primary school pupils came back with their parents who were welcomed by the principal, Mr Geagan, before visiting the different classes to chat with the teachers and students. The evening ended with Mr Geagan giving a presentation about the school and Conor McEvoy, a 6th year student, telling the parents about his time at Ard Scoil Chiarain. After some tea/coffee and biscuits, the evening was over. It was a great success and no doubt we will see some of these faces again, roaming the school’s corridors, in the near future.
