Visit to TUS Athlone with Business in the Community

22 Mar, 2024 | Junior Cycle

This week 2nd year students visited TUS Athlone as part of the Business in the Community programme. The BITC programme is about Sustainability. The students received an amazing tour of the college and got a huge insight into how TUS Athlone is being sustainable.

First stop on the tour was to the Hospitality department where the students visited The Garden of Curiosity Project, the polytunnel, wormer and vertical Aeroponic Tower Gardens. Students also received a talk on food sustainability.

Second stop was to the Science department where the students carried out experiments during a workshop in the Science laboratory. It was a very hands on workshop which gave students a great insight into what it would be like to study Science at third level.

Next stop was to the Engineering department where the students met “Ronan”. The students were set a task to design a leg that would allow Ronan to do a back flip. The Engineering department were very impressed with the ideas put forward by the class.

Finally students visited the Sports Arena. It was great to see all that the Sports Science side of Sports offers students in relation to Careers.

We would like to thank TUS Athlone for an amazing day in the college and also thank you to BITC.
