Our Journey to Leinster Glory
The first match of our league campaign was against Clonaslee at Pairc Proncias, it was a hard fought game but great performances from George Robbins, Dermot Doolan and Ryan Kelly meant we proved too strong for them and we won out easily in the end.
The next team we played was Cistercian College Roscrea. ASC got off to a great start with goals from
Luke Dignam and Seamus O’Brien. Ard Scoil controlled the game from then on but in the last 10 minutes of the game Roscrea fought back by scoring two goals and left 3 points in it with 5 minutes to go. A great save pulled off by Wesley Johnson in the dying moments secured the win for Ard Scoil.
Our last game was against Oaklands, Edenderry and a must win if we were to progress to the North
Leinster semi-finals. ASC went in leading by 3 points at half time and a great second half led us to an
easy victory – great point taking from Carl Stewart and late scores from Mark Newman guaranteed the
win.
After the group stages we played Granard Community School from Longford in the North Leinster semifinals. Another great performance from the boys who gained a well-deserved victory. All the members of the team played extremely well in getting to the North Leinster final.
North Leinster Final
In the North Leinster Final we played Bush Post Primary School in Dunganny, Co.Meath. It was played on the astro-turf pitch. Bush got off to a great start with a goal after 5 minutes but Clara steadied the ship with great points from Colm Doyle, Martin Fleming and Luke Dignam. On the stroke of half-time Steven Buckley hit a high ball at the goal which the keeper misjudged and it ended up in the back of the net to put Ard Scoil 1-11 to 1-3 ahead at half-time. ASC came out in the second half and continued what they had been doing in the first half. ASC forwards Jamie Monaghan and Josh Kearney did well to stop theBush backs from getting out too easily with the ball, while Alan Gavin and Kieran Hartnet were cleaning up in the backline. Josh McCluskey scored a superb point to put ASC even further ahead. Substitutes Ciaran Doyle, Conor Egan, Calum Egan all did well when they came on. It was Gavin Fennessy who got the final score of the game with a good free from the 21. The final score was 1-18 to 1-10 and Ard Scoil were North Leinster Champs. The man of the match award was divided between two players Colm Doyle and Luke Dignam who both gave inspirational performances at either end of the field.
