Transition Year

Transition Year

Transition Year is a one year optional programme for Senior Cycle students.

Aims of Transition Year

  • It provides a bridge to enable students make the transition from the more dependent type of learning associated with the Junior Certificate, to the more independent learning environment associated with the Senior Cycle.
  • To provide a learning structure which promotes maturation.
  • To offer students a more solid foundation for Leaving Certificate.
  • To provide vocational guidance.
  • To develop students’ various skills: study skills, life skills and the skill to work on their own initiative.
  • It encourages personal and social development and recognises the need for students to grow in independence.
  • Transition year fosters academic achievement as students prepare for a Leaving Certificate programme, further study and adult working life.
  • It encourages the development of a wide range of transferable critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
