Transition Year
Transition Year is a one year optional programme for Senior Cycle students.
Aims of Transition Year
- It provides a bridge to enable students make the transition from the more dependent type of learning associated with the Junior Certificate, to the more independent learning environment associated with the Senior Cycle.
- To provide a learning structure which promotes maturation.
- To offer students a more solid foundation for Leaving Certificate.
- To provide vocational guidance.
- To develop students’ various skills: study skills, life skills and the skill to work on their own initiative.
- It encourages personal and social development and recognises the need for students to grow in independence.
- Transition year fosters academic achievement as students prepare for a Leaving Certificate programme, further study and adult working life.
- It encourages the development of a wide range of transferable critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
