Junior Certificate
The Junior Certificate is a three year programme designed to educate and continuously assess students in the 12 to 15 years age group. The objective of the Junior Certificate is to facilitate students with the study of a wide range of curriculum areas, which will prepare them for progression into senior cycle.
At Ard Scoil Chiarain Naofa an extensive range of subjects are on offer, at both higher and ordinary level to Junior Certificate students.
Core Examination Subjects
These are the subjects which students are required to study.
- English
- Irish
- Maths
- Geography
- History
- Science
- C.S.P.E.
Optional Examination Subjects
Students are required to choose four subjects from this grouping which enables them to study in a particular area of interest.
- Art
- Business Studies
- French
- Home Economics
- Materials Technology Metal
- Materials Technology Wood
- Technical Graphics
Non Examination Subjects
These subjects do not involve a state exam following their conclusion; however promote the overall personal and educational development of the students involved.
- Information Technology
- S.P.H.E.
- Religion
On conclusion of this three year programme students will complete their first official State Examination.
